How to make your India passport photo with PassPic
- Open the photo maker and choose India passport photo.
- Upload one or two photos of yourself (HEIC, JPG or PNG). If you upload two, PassPic picks the better one.
- PassPic finds your face, levels your eyes, replaces the background and sizes your head to the format.
- Check the measurements shown next to the result, then download the photo and the 4×6 print sheet.
Tips for a photo that gets accepted
- Stand about 1.5 meters from the camera, as the guideline asks, and have someone else take the photo.
- Use even light with no shadows or flash reflections on your face, and keep hair away from your eyes.
- Take off your glasses to avoid reflections. Keep your mouth closed and your expression natural.
- Show your whole head and the top of your shoulders, looking straight at the camera without tilting your head.
- Do not use filters or edit the photo yourself. The guideline says photos should be unaltered by computer software, so a plain white wall gives the most natural result.
Frequently asked questions
What size is an Indian passport photo?
35 × 45 mm (3.5 × 4.5 cm), in color, on a white background. For the online upload, Passport Seva asks for 630 × 810 pixels. PassPic gives you both.
How big should the face be?
The Passport Seva guideline says the face should take up 80–85% of the photograph, as a close-up of the head and top of the shoulders. It does not give a size in mm. PassPic reads this as the head height, from chin to top of hair, and sizes it to 36–38 mm.
Can I wear glasses?
The guideline asks you to take glasses off to avoid reflections.
Is this the same as an India visa photo?
No. Foreigners applying for an Indian visa need a 2 × 2 inch photo. Use the India visa photo page for that.
Can I edit or replace the background?
The guideline says photos should be unaltered by computer software. PassPic crops, sizes and sets a white background, but does not retouch your face. Taking the photo against a plain white wall keeps changes to a minimum.
Is my photo kept?
Photos you upload are used only to make your picture and are deleted automatically after 1 hour. See the privacy policy for details.
